(Advocacy and Participation) Invited to Inspect the East Kowloon Cultural District

The East Kowloon Cultural District will commence operations in mid-November. The government has positioned the venue to promote long-term performances and the development of arts and technology. These facilities represent crucial cultural infrastructure. In the future, many elderly and persons with disabilities will attend exhibitions and performances. We also anticipate numerous disabled theatre groups and artists with disabilities curating exhibitions and staging performances. Therefore, ensuring the facilities are diverse, inclusive, and accessible is of paramount importance.

Since 2017, we have participated in the consultation process for planning the East Kowloon Cultural District. During this period, we actively engaged in multiple consultation sessions and workshops, providing substantial feedback on accessibility features and supporting facilities within the venue. Today, at the invitation of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, we conducted an accessibility inspection of the venue facilities prior to the opening of the East Kowloon Cultural District. Committee member Au Wing-kwong also provided optimization suggestions to the departmental team regarding facilities within the venue, such as entrance and exit designs, elevators, seating arrangements, restrooms, and accessible pathways. We also hope that by testing the accessibility level of the facilities and services, the facilities can be perfected so that when they are put into service, all kinds of supporting facilities can inclusively cater to diverse needs.
