Established on 23 February 1992, Rehabilitation Alliance Hong Kong (“RAHK”) is an NGO and Disabled People’s Organization administered by people with diverse disabilities as well as people in the mainstream. We have over 5,500 members with physical disabilities, visual impairments, hearing impairments, intellectual disabilities, mental challenges, chronic illnesses, as well as mainstream people who share our common goal for better quality of life for everybody in all aspects. We examine the policies and administrative issues in rehabilitation, with a view to advocating disability “Inclusion” and “Full Participation”.
We uphold our aim through the following avenues:
- Sharing knowledge, experiences, and perspectives on disability issues.
- Attending seminars, lectures, forums, and other events to express the views of individuals with disabilities on rehabilitation and other relevant policies.
- Publicising the rights that individuals with disabilities should enjoy.
- Participating in the formulation of rehabilitation policies and monitoring the provision of existing services.
- Conducting research aligned with the Alliance’s mission.
- Collaborating with other organisations to promote the Alliance’s objectives.
- Contacting organisations in mainland China and overseas that uphold the same mission and establishing relationships.
Organizing seminar on organization for persons with disabilities cum 20th anniversary dinner
On 14 October, Rehabilitation Alliance organized a public education workshop on accessibility at the Chan Fuk Shing Resource Centre for students of the Department of Special Education and Counselling of the Hong Kong University of Education. Project Officer explained to the students with the diversity of different disabilities, and taught them on-site the techniques of sighted guide and using wheelchairs, while the students had the opportunity to simulate and experience being a person with a physical disability and a person with visual impairment, so as to gain first-person understanding of the difficulties faced by the people with such disabilities in their daily lives.
We are committed to connect with different sectors of the community and delivering gift bags to persons with disabilities during the epidemic, which were donated by FH Rehabilitation Products Manufacturing Co Limited.
